Gandaki, Dec 12: Finance Minister of the Gandaki Province, Jeet Bahadur Ale Magar said mountains have seen rising effects of climate change.
At a closing of the 8th Mountain Festival organized by the Nepal Mountaineering Association on the occasion of International Mountain Day today, he said climate change has direct impact on mountains where Nepal’s identity has been associated with.
Nepal is not responsible for recent state of climate change but is at the receiving end of its negative impact, he said, laying emphasis on preserving mountainous and hilly cultures.
Noting that mountains are our assets, Minister Magar said mountains have established Nepal’s identify in the globe.
Senior Vice President of the Nepal Mountaineering Association Thakuraj Pandey said the festival was organized to enhance mountain tourism and get its importance understood.
Chief Executive officer of the Association and festival coordinator Jinesh Sindurakar shared they have planned to develop an annual calendar for organizing the festivals every year.
The five-day festival that kicked off on Friday will showcase mountain life and screen documentary of mountaineers as well as the impact of climate change.
